Welcome to the Industrial Automation India 2013 show. This year’s show takes place from 17 to 20 December 2013 at Pragati Maidan New Delhi. Industrial Automation India showcases solutions for process, factory and building automation systems. It is the platform to display all the industrial applications of automation.

Beckhoff will present its flexible PC- and EtherCAT-based automation solution for PLC, Motion Control and measurement technology. The broad range of components and system solutions can be flexibly tailored to all machine control as well as handling applications. At IA-INDIA 2013, Beckhoff will highlight its scalable CNC package: The open, PC-based control architecture enables flexible programming and introduces the high potential of multi-core computing into the DIN rail.

The open TwinCAT 3 architecture offers users the option to use C/C++ or Matlab®/Simulink® as programming languages for real-time applications, in addition to IEC 61131-3. In other words, users can choose the language that is best suited for the task at hand. Modules written in different languages can interact in real-time via the TcCOM interface. Microsoft Visual Studio® provides a platform for the configuration, programming and diagnostics of all TwinCAT modules.

Embedded PC: Multi-core on the DIN rail

The CX2000 series provides a great deal of flexibility and performance on the DIN rail with multi-core processors and modular PC and I/O interfaces. The modularly expandable Embedded PC series in a robust metal housing is based on three basic CPU modules with the following processors: Intel® Celeron® 1.4 GHz single-core (CX2020), Intel® Core™ i7 1.5 GHz dual-core (CX2030) or Intel® Core™ i7 2.1 GHz quad-core (CX2040). Embedded PCs thus cover performance ranges for PLC, CNC and Motion Control that have been reserved for Industrial PCs until now.

With support for multi-core processing and 64-bit operating systems, TwinCAT 3 opens up performance reserves that can be used for the high-precision control of HSC (high-speed cutting) milling machines, for example. Thanks to the fast control technology and user-friendly programming of the Beckhoff CNC, the potential of HSC machining centres can be fully leveraged: higher dynamics, an improved surface quality and increased flexibility in parts processing.

Scalable Drive Technology

The scalable drive solutions from Beckhoff cover a broad range of applications: from the compact servo terminal to the AX5000 EtherCAT servo drive up to 118 KW. The servomotors of the AM8000 series are available in 6 sizes with standstill torques between 0.5 and 90 Nm. With the integrated One Cable Technology (OCT), the feedback signal is transferred via the standard motor cable. This enables more compact machine designs and a reduction in wiring costs by up to 50 %.

The servo terminals of the EL7201 series for the EtherCAT I/O system integrate a complete servo drive in a standard terminal housing measuring only 12 mm wide. Instead of the traditional resolver interface, the EL7201-0010 supports the One Cable Technology (OCT) of the AM81xx servomotor range and enables their direct connection. The analog EL3356-0010 input terminal enables direct connection of a resistor bridge or load cell in a 4- or 6-wire connection technology. The ratio between the bridge voltage UD and the supply voltage UREF is determined simultaneously in the input circuit and the final load value is calculated as a process value on the basis of the settings in the terminal. With automatic self-calibration (can be deactivated), dynamic filters and distributed clock support, the terminal with measuring cycles of 100 µs can be used for fast and precise monitoring of torque or vibration sensors.
